How to crack root password in linux?

Simple steps to crack root password in a Linux system are:

  • Reboot the system. Reboot and not restart.
  • Select the OS kernel from the GRUB screen.
  • Press 'e' to edit the configuration.
  • Select the 'kernel' configuration.
  • Press 'e' to edit the entry.
  • Append 'S' or 'Single' at the end. (or append "init 1")
  • Press 'Enter'
  • Press 'b' to boot the system with the same OS kernel.
Now, the root prompt will be provided without asking root password while the system is in single user node. Root password can now be changed using "passwd" command as used in general.
